Betting on the Premier League Matches – 10th to 12th September
Betting on the Premier League Matches – 10th to 12th September
The Premier League season is alive and kicking, and last week’s entertainment was brilliant. Not though if you come from North London, where you were either outclassed by Manchester City or humiliated by Manchester United. There were plenty of goals all over the weekend, and the last weekend in the Premier League has got it all going! As I do every week, here are some betting tips for this weekend’s matches. Unfortunately I couldn’t do one of the last weekend of games, but obviously would have never predicted an 8-2 score line. So far I have been correct more times than being incorrect in terms of results, so I’ll give myself a pat on the back but I need to get more specials and fist goal scorers right. These weekend we have some cracking games to look forward to, all the top 6 avoid each other on this match day, as some are expecting easy wins, and others have hard away games. There are some crucial games for the sides fighting the drop, and every game in the Premier League is vital.
Arsenal v Swansea – Saturday 3:00pm
It’s a big game for Arsenal, this. Sure, at the beginning of the season, they would of seen this as 3 points without fail. Although after a shaky start to say the least, this is a must win to get their season going in the right direction. Losing to Liverpool and Manchester United isn’t what they needed after losing their best two players. They have made new signings and they have to fit in straight away, as this club demands Champions League football every year, and there in for a tough long season. Their opponents are Swansea, who are currently favourites to finish bottom of the pile come May. They have picked up 2 points, 2 goal less draws at home, whilst losing away at Manchester City too. No goals will be a huge problem for them. Arsenal are strong favourites for this one, as you imagine, but not certainties, as they are 4/11. A draw is 7/2 and an unlikely away victory is 8/1. For this scenario, I cannot see Arsenal dropping points. Sometimes I have visions, and I believe Swansea will take the lead, only for Arsenal to peg them back.
Correct Score; Arsenal 3-1 Swansea First Goal Scorer; Theo Walcott for Arsenal (6/1)
Special; Stephen Dobbie (Swansea) to score first, Arsenal to win 3-1 (150/1)
Everton v Aston Villa – Saturday 3:00pm
Not sure what to expect from Everton here. They lost at QPR at home first game of the season, then won at Blackburn. They have made a couple of loan signings, but sold some strikers and of course play maker Mikel Arteta. It is worrying times for Everton, who usually are in the top 7, but they are falling away from the top it seems. Aston Villa on the other hand, has started brightly this season. Undefeated in three games, although two lacklustre 0-0’s. Still, can’t complain with 5 points from opening three games and looking tough to beat, especially after you lose your key wingers in the summer. The games in between these two are usually entertaining and go either way. Having said that, Everton haven’t won in the last 6 fixtures between the two sides, but are favourites with this (Evens) as Aston Villa are 14/5, with a draw at 23/10. I think this game will be close, but I have to go with what my gut says, and that is a home victory.
Correct Score; Everton 1-0 Aston Villa First Goal Scorer ; Leon Osman for Everton (12/1)
Special; Everton to win with 2 or fewer goals scored in the match (3/1)
Manchester City v Wigan – Saturday 3:00pm
Manchester City looks like potential champions it has to be said. They look like giving Manchester United the toughest time of retaining their title. Manchester City dropped silly points at home last season, because they usually stalled against sides that were hard to break down. When teams set up against them, then the game would often finish 0-0 last season. However, it seems they are far more attacking this time around, and with players like Silva, Tevez and Aguero looking to start tomorrow, how can they not score? Wigan are unpredictable in this league. One week they’ll beat Arsenal or Chelsea, the next they’ll lose a game they were expecting to win. Manchester City are overwhelming favourites at 1/6, with Wigan remarkably at 16/1, and I don’t recall seeing odds like that in the past, for any Premier League encounter. My money is on the home side, and i’ll fall of my chair in disbelief if Wigan gets anything from this.
Correct Score; Manchester City 5-0 Wigan (20/1) First Goal scorer; Edin Dzeko for Man City (3/1)
Special; Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero all to score in the match (7/2)
Stoke v Liverpool – 3:00pm Saturday
Stoke are an improving side, year after year. Last season they finished in a strong position, and were runners up in the FA Cup. This season, they hope to improve once again, and have a strong squad at their disposal and signed Crouch and Palacios for more quality. They are a tough team to beat, and proved that by being undefeated so far this season. Liverpool have showed a lot of promise so far, and sit 3rd in the table on merit. They have a striker in Luis Suarez who has unbelievable quality. The general team is looking good, and under King Kenny they will have big ambitions. Liverpool have struggled travelling to Stoke though, having not won there since Stoke were promoted to the Premier League. Liverpool are 6/5 for this one, and I believe that is quite kind to punters. Stoke are 12/5 to win, but I’d go for an away win here. They are a due a win at Stoke, and this will send a statement to the Manchester clubs indeed.
Correct Score; Stoke 0-1 Liverpool (6/1) First Goal Scorer; Luis Suarez for Liverpool (4/1)
Special; There to be 0-1 goals in the match (7/4)
Sunderland v Chelsea – 3:00pm Saturday
Sunderland were promising when they walked away from Anfield with a draw. Since then, they have had some disappointing performances, by losing to Newcastle and drawing at Swansea. Still, without a win under their belts, and it’s probably not the right time to face someone they have a terrible record against. Chelsea have won 11 out of the last 12 of these meetings. You remember the odd one out, as Sunderland beat Chelsea 3-0 last season at Stamford Bridge, when Chelsea were on a huge bad patch. Chelsea, this season, can’t afford any bad spells throughout the season, as others are gaining momentum. Chelsea haven’t impressed so far, although have taken 7 points from 9, and points is all that matters. There next two games are this one and a trip to Old Trafford next week. This game is therefore vital, and one they should be winning. Sunderland are 4/1 for this one, as Chelsea are 7/10. I haven’t been impressed with Chelsea, so they will either prove me wrong and win this comfortably, or prove me right and drop 2 points in this match. Hmmm.
Correct Score; Sunderland 0-3 Chelsea (11/1) First Goal Scorer; Anelka for Chelsea (11/2)
Special; Sunderland to be leading at half time, but the match finishes in a draw (14/1)
Wolves v Tottenham – 3:00pm Saturday
Wolves have had a brilliant start to their season. They have reached 7 points in their first 3 games and it’s only September. Last season they had to wait until November to get to this point. They have beaten Blackburn and Fulham, whilst earning a draw at Aston Villa too. Their opponents have had opposite fortune, as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League. Their first game was off due to the riots, then they had been beaten badly by Manchester United and Manchester City, shipping in 8 goals. It’s a bad start, but they can recover, and with their squad they are hoping to reach those Champions League positions again. Despite league standings, and home advantage, the odds on favourite for this match is Tottenham at 7/5, whilst Wolves are 15/8. It was a 3-3 draw last time around, and the year before that Wolves won. It’s going to be tough, but I think Tottenham will get the 3 points in the bag.
Correct Score; Wolves 1-2 Tottenham (7/1) First Goal Scorer; Adebayor for Tottenham (5/1)
Special; Tottenham to come from behind and win (10/1)
Bolton v Manchester United – 5:30pm Saturday
Bolton have had a hard fixture list so far this season, and may that continue as they play current Premier League leaders, and of course, champions. Bolton have lost to Manchester City and Liverpool in their last two games, but must think they are due some result against a top side. Manchester United have been in impeccable form, winning every game since they were dominated by Barcelona in the Champions League final. There last match saw them beat rivals Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford. Games between these two sides are usually close, especially at the Reebok Stadium. Last season it was 2-2, with Bolton leading twice in the game. Manchester United were slightly fortunate to get a point as Michael Owen scored a late equaliser. Bolton are 7/1 to win this match, so quite considerate outsiders. Manchester United are 2/5 and if they continue their run of form, they shouldn’t have too much problem with this Bolton side, big ‘if’ though as their away form is not as prolific as they home form.
Correct Score; Bolton 1-3 Manchester United (10/1) First Goal Scorer; Nani for Man Utd (8/1)
Special; There to be 5 goals or more in this match (7/2)
Norwich v West Brom – 1:30pm Sunday
This appears to be a crucial game as both may be fighting relegation this season. Norwich have picked up 2 points from their first 3 games, including a gutsy performance against Chelsea last time out. West Brom couldn’t of wished for a more difficult start, losing to both Manchester United and Chelsea in their first two games. They have since lost to Stoke, so they remain 18th in the table with 0 points. Norwich are slight favourites for this one at 6/5 whilst West Brom are 9/5. This is a fixture which is hard to choose a result, let alone a correct score. Norwich were good in their home match against Stoke, and were unlucky not to win. West Brom will need to perform for them to win is just unlikely, so I’ll have to go with my gut.
Correct Score; Norwich 0-0 West Brom (10/1) First Goal Scorer; Shane Long for West Brom (10/1)
Special; First goal to be scored from 80th minute to end of the match (20/1)
Fulham v Blackburn – 4:00pm Sunday
Both of these sides had hoped for stronger starts, especially for the away side as they come into this game with 0 points. Fulham have lost both away games, and only got a draw with their sole home game. They are usually formidable at home, and are favourites for this one at 8/11. Blackburn need to start picking up points, and quick. They lost at home to Wolves, followed by an away defeat at Aston Villa, and then another home defeat to Everton, so all games were not particularly too difficult. They will face a hard task of staying up if they continue to lose games, when they should be getting at least a point from. This is a tricky game for them and the bookmakers don’t give them much hope as they are 9/2 to win this match. Blackburn did win here a few years ago, and will hope for a repeat. I can’t look past Fulham for this match though, not many sides get wins here, and I think Fulham will edge it.
Correct Score; Fulham 1-0 Blackburn (6/1) First Goal Scorer; Bobby Zamora for Fulham (4/1)
Special; Blackburn to score 4 goals or more in this match (100/1)
QPR v Newcastle – 8:00pm Monday
QPR signed more players than anyone else in the transfer window, so they are fully prepared to keep their position in the Premier League. There most notable signing is Joey Barton, who was obviously signed from Newcastle who they face on this Monday night. So far QPR have been inconsistent in the Premier League, losing a game they had a decent chance in, then winning a game some pundits gave them no chance in, and then losing again. Newcastle have had a strong start to the season, earning 7 points from their first 3 games. A home draw with Arsenal followed by the Tyneside derby win, and then winning at home to Fulham, as they remain undefeated. QPR are 11/8 to win this match, with Newcastle priced at 2/1, so expect it to be a close match. I personally think the win will go to QPR in this one, as their fans, manager and players with be very much up for it.
Correct Score; QPR 2-0 Newcastle (10/1) First Goal Scorer; Joey Barton for QPR (10/1)
Special; QPR to win with 2 or fewer goals scored in the match (10/3)
